For Executives & Investors

Clear thinking is a physiological state.

Portfolio managers, founders, and senior executives come to this practice for one reason: decisions made in a dysregulated state are worse decisions. The 10-week protocol trains your baseline. Not coping strategies for stress, but a measurably different physiological response to it.

Clients learn to downshift after a drawdown, task-switch without residue, sleep through earnings season, and walk into the boardroom in the same state they trained in. Progress is tracked with objective HRV data, not self-report.

Engagements are discreet, one-to-one, and built around trading hours and travel. In person at 505 Park Avenue, remote, or a combination.

Stress management and performance training for executives in NYC.

Most stress management teaches you to cope. This work trains the physiology underneath: a 10-week, one-to-one HRV biofeedback protocol that changes how your nervous system responds to pressure and how quickly it recovers afterward. It is performance coaching grounded in objective HRV data, not self-report.

Sessions run 45 to 50 minutes at 505 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, remotely, or a combination, scheduled around trading hours, earnings season and travel. Every engagement begins with a 55-minute consultation.

Who this work is for.

Portfolio managers, traders, hedge fund principals, founders, CEOs and senior partners consult with Dr. Lagos to overcome performance anxiety, manage mood and energy, and strengthen resilience. The common thread is a job where the quality of a single decision, made under time pressure and scrutiny, carries real consequence. This is the core of Dr. Lagos's practice in performance psychology in NYC.

Clients typically arrive wanting one or more of the following:

  • Faster recovery following stressors: a loss, a difficult call, a bad print.
  • Quicker reaction time, and more objective, precise decision-making.
  • Sustained focus and stamina across long, high-stakes days.
  • The ability to turn off the busy brain at night, and to sleep and recover between demands.

Heart rate variability is the most direct window into how your nervous system handles pressure. Higher, more adaptive variability means you recover faster, sleep deeper, and think clearly when it matters. Most people have never been taught to control it. That is what this practice does.

What the engagement looks like.

1. Initial meetingA 55-minute consultation. At its close, Dr. Lagos provides multi-dimensional recommendations, and you decide together how to proceed.
2. HRV & stress profileAn assessment of your baseline physiology, stress response and recovery patterns across six physiological modalities.
3. Ten-week protocolOne-to-one sessions of 45 to 50 minutes, integrating mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral strategies and physiological training under time and pressure.
4. Remote continuationThe identical architecture over video, from wherever the calendar takes you.

The protocol follows one architecture across ten weeks: identifying your resonance frequency, letting go of stress, gaining control over heart and mind, shifting heart rhythms to optimize performance, resilience training, heart-on-demand and under-pressure training, achieving resonance through visualization, and heart strategies for focus. Each session builds on the last, and the techniques are entirely non-invasive.

Remote clients follow the same 10-week program over video, with the same biofeedback training, the same objective HRV tracking and the same one-to-one format. Most clients outside New York begin with a single in-person consultation, then continue remotely; many complete the entire protocol from London, Riyadh, Los Angeles, and wherever the season takes them.

Your wearable is the gauge. This is the training.

Oura, WHOOP and other wearables report HRV each morning. They are an excellent gauge. HRV biofeedback is the training that moves the gauge: a structured method for raising and controlling the variability your device measures, and holding it under real pressure, in the meeting, on the desk, on the road.

What the published research shows.

The protocol taught in this office appears in Dr. Lagos's peer-reviewed research. Those studies were conducted in sport and recovery settings, not on trading floors, but they measure the same physiology executives train: heart rate variability at resonance frequency. The same method underpins HRV biofeedback in NYC and Dr. Lagos's sport performance consultations in NYC.

  • In a ten-week case study published in Biofeedback (2008), training at 0.1 Hz produced acute increases in total and low-frequency HRV, an effect that grew stronger across sessions.
  • In the same study, negative mood states fell on four of five measures, and self-reported confidence rose from 4 to 26 on a standard scale. The athlete's average 18-hole golf score dropped from 91 to 76.
  • A post-concussion case study (Lagos, Thompson & Vaschillo, 2013) reported significant reductions in headache and mood disturbance following HRV training.

Honest limits: these are case studies, and individual results vary. Plain-language summaries of the papers are on the research pages, and the broader evidence base is reviewed on HRV biofeedback in NYC, in depth.

For firms and leadership teams.

The same architecture is adapted for the trading floor, the C-suite and the deal team: half-day intensives, multi-week team protocols with wearable tracking, and one-to-one work with senior leaders. Dr. Lagos also speaks on task-switching, recovery and decision quality in her talk “The Physiology of the Pivot.” See corporate programs.

Questions.

How much time does the protocol take?
Ten weeks. Every engagement begins with a 55-minute initial meeting; training sessions then run 45 to 50 minutes, one-to-one, scheduled around market hours and travel.
Can I train remotely or while traveling?
Yes. Remote clients follow the identical 10-week architecture over video, with the same biofeedback training and the same objective HRV tracking. Most clients outside New York begin with a single in-person consultation at 505 Park Avenue and then continue remotely.
Is the engagement confidential?
Engagements are discreet and one-to-one. Re-training the heart and mind can bring up sensitive conversations that require trust and confidentiality, and every program is built around your specific demands.
Do I need an Oura ring or another wearable?
No. Training uses a biofeedback sensor in session. If you already wear a device, it becomes a useful daily gauge of the change.
How is progress measured?
With objective HRV data, not self-report. Training begins with an HRV and stress-response profile of your baseline physiology, stress response and recovery patterns, and progress is tracked against it.
Is this a stress management program?
It is stress management built as performance training. Rather than coping strategies, the 10-week protocol trains a measurably different physiological response to pressure and faster recovery afterward, tracked with objective HRV data against your own baseline.
Can you work with my whole team or firm?
Yes. Executive leadership teams, hedge funds and Fortune 500 companies engage Dr. Lagos for half-day intensives, multi-week team protocols with wearable tracking, and one-to-one work with senior leaders. Corporate engagements are scoped individually.
